Outpatient Services Q & A

What are outpatient services?

Outpatient medical services are procedures or treatments performed in the medical clinic setting without the need to stay overnight for observation or additional care. They allow you to get the health services you need without the added stress and expense of an overnight stay.

Thanks to advancements in medical technology, primary care providers can offer numerous outpatient services that would once necessitate a hospital stay. This means you can meet a wide range of health needs in a manner that is both effective and convenient.

Outpatient care is sometimes referred to as ambulatory care. Some outpatient services require only an hour or two of your time, while others include a post-procedure observation period and can last for most of the day.

What are some examples of outpatient services?

Any in-house medical service provided by the team at Galenus Group that does not require an overnight stay is technically an outpatient service. Some examples of these services include:

  • Annual physical exams
  • X-ray and other imaging
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • Laboratory testing
  • Same-day urgent care
  • Follow-up visits
  • Preoperative exams

These are just some of the health needs that would be considered outpatient services. If you have questions about a specific treatment or service, just call the office to learn more about the timeline for care.

How do I know if outpatient services are right for me?

When you rely on the team at Galenus Group for your primary care, you partner with a practitioner with extensive experience in all aspects of health and wellness. In the instance that you need a specific treatment or procedure, your practitioner explains whether your needs can be met through an outpatient visit.

If the need arises for an overnight hospital stay, your primary care provider can still manage your care. There are cases that require specialized medical equipment or close monitoring after a procedure, and a hospital or surgical center is often the best fit.

Medicare has specific rules about which treatments are covered as inpatient or outpatient. Your care team explains what to expect in regard to scheduling, follow-up care, and billing.

If you have additional questions about outpatient services, call the office to book a visit. Online scheduling is also an option and is fast and easy.
