Onsite Blood Draws Q & A

What are onsite blood draws?

Onsite blood draws are one of the convenient services available at Galenus Group. The group medical practice provides comprehensive, cutting-edge care that’s convenient and affordable.

With onsite blood draws, you don’t have to go to another clinic or lab to complete your bloodwork.

When do I need onsite blood draws?

Your provider at Galenus Group may order an onsite blood draw during your annual physical exam or a chronic care management follow-up. They may request you complete the blood draw before or after your visit.

The team may also order onsite blood draws when you come in for a sick visit. Through their laboratory services, the team can order different types of lab tests to quickly find out why you feel unwell.

How do I prepare for onsite blood draws?

Your provider explains what you need to do to prepare for your onsite blood draw prior to the test. For some blood tests, they may ask you to stop eating and drinking at least eight hours before you come in for your blood draw. You may also need to stop taking certain medications.

However, in most cases, there’s nothing special you need to do before your onsite blood draw except wear a shirt or top that allows for easy access to the veins of your arm.

What happens during onsite blood draws?

During your onsite blood draw at Galenus Group, you sit in a chair or on the exam table. The phlebotomist checks your arm to look for a good vein they can use to take blood. They clean your arm with alcohol and insert a needle into the vein.

Depending on the type of blood tests ordered, they may need to fill more than one test tube. After they complete the blood draw, your phlebotomist removes the needle and covers the wound with a bandage.

You can resume your usual activities after your onsite blood draw unless your provider at Galenus Group says otherwise. Your provider also explains when you can expect your results.

Galenus Group and its physicians provide southwest Florida and the surrounding areas with high-quality, comprehensive health care. To learn more about onsite blood draws and all of their other services, call or book an appointment online today.
